Amazonian Botanicals Explained

The Amazon is not a single place. It is a vast, layered world of rivers, canopy, understory, and soil that holds more plant species than most continents. For the people who have lived there for thousands of years, the forest is a living pharmacy, kitchen, and ceremonial space. Many of the ingredients we use at Kristi Spiral come directly from that knowledge.

Urucum is the seed of Bixa orellana, a small tree with bristly red pods. It is the heart of our Brazilian Shimmering Tanning Oil. The seeds are rich in bixin, a carotenoid that gives skin a warm, sun-kissed undertone and supports a natural glow. In the Amazon, urucum has been used for color, protection, and ceremony for generations.

Buriti is a palm oil with deep orange color and a soft, rich texture. It is one of the most antioxidant-dense plant oils available, high in beta-carotene and vitamin E. We use it for its ability to nourish, soften, and protect the skin while helping the tone look warm and even.
